Roku voice remotes don't listen to voice unless the button is pressed, and then only while it is pressed. Or am I misunderstanding what your trying to accomplish?

Ok - thanks fo ryour reply.. but it is not possible to deactivate it completly? so that nothing happens if you push the button..
I don't know. I've never had the need to do that, so I've never looked up how to do that. I don't think that capability exists, unless it was added in the last update to the Roku OS. Previously, there was no way to disable it.
If you were to press the button, you'd see that it lets you know, in case someone hits it by accident. Try and see.
Do you use any remote features other than the standard arrow and OK button? Would losing the volume and power buttons be a problem? If not, get a universal remote. They are IR, which requires clear line of sight. Roku sells one for $15, but any cheap universal remote would likely work. Just make sure it's compatible with Roku. It'll say so on the box, in all likelihood. Sorry, none of that applies to a Stick.
Or use the Roku mobile app on your phone. You may want to turn Google Assistant or Siri off first, if voice controls are an issue.

I don't find that an acceptable solution. I am looking to MAYBE purchase something new from Roku. I've had Roku's for years. I don't like any of the new remotes. The voice activation is going to be the deal breaker for me. It's intrusive and I don't like the concept.
I already have enough software and hardware that's intrusive in my life. I don't need more. I can live without upgrading Roku or I can come up with different alternatives or I figure I can.
I'd like to hear from someone who is knowledgeable on this subject. Can the voice activation be completely deactivated permanently? And not 'oh, I accidentally pressed the 'eh' button and now it's on again!' like I read in another thread about some other 'feature'. (eh is just a noise to replace whatever it was)
Maybe Apple TV (Siri), Android/Google TV (Google Assistant), or Amazon Fire TV (Alexa) would be a better option for you, if not pressing a button is too hard.

Roku still sells the Roku Express for $19.99, it comes with an IR remote, use it only never pair voice remote to it and you won't need to fear for it recording your conversations.
Now, you are just being rude. I didn't say *I* was having problems with it. I said I had read about someone else having problems with it. Apparently it's quite easy to accidentally hit this button. Treating someone as a simpleton is not a good way to make friends and influence people.
Having previewed a few responses in my e-mail last night or day before (busy weekend - sorry), this really seems like some off the cuff style that isn't your thing. I am choosing to believe that you just decided you wanted to have fun at someone's expense and are being a joker. Otherwise, well.. choose a few choice curse words and have fun with them from me.
I'm not a roku newbie nor am I a tech newbie. I also don't automatically assume that because that because somoene has *privacy and security* concerns *and* form factor concerns that they are stupid.
I choose to use Roku because it's what I have always used. I could use my TV. I could probably use my DVD player. I could probably use at least two-three other devices I can see at this very moment. I *choose* not to. However, I would *never use ANYTHING by Google, Amazon or Apple. Yes, I have a Mac. It's a tool that I chose at a certain time in my life but I knew what I was getting and was willing to take the consequences. Down the line? I might make other choices. But they certainly are NOT going to be Google or Amazon or Apple or Microsoft.
