Can you use a tv remote instead of a roku remote?

If I watch YouTube tv on a smart tv I can use the tv remote which has more features than the best roku remote. But if I’m watching an older tv and require roku to be able to stream my tv remote doesn’t work. The roku remote sucks. Is there a way to pair a regular remote to roku instead?

Sorry but no. If the tv remote doesn't have a Roku code, then it won't work.
