I have a Samsung TV with a Visio sound bar. I just bought a Roku Streaming Stick+. Although the Roku remote can control the TV power, the volume buttons on the remote have no effect. Is there a way to make the Roku remote volume buttons work given my setup? The sound bar is connected to the TV via optical cable.
Its possible (depending on several factors).
1) From Home: Home 5x, FF, PP, RW, PP, FF (takes you to the Platform Secret Screen)
2) Select "RF Remote Menu"
3) Select "IR Transmit Menu"
4) Select "Enable Querying AVRs (instead of TVs)"
5) Go Home/Settings/Remotes & devices/Remotes/<your remote name> (in use)/Set up remote for TV control
You may have to go through many codes, and if you get the "try again" (if you answer yes to the first question, and no repeatedly until you get the "try again" dialog box), you can manually enter brand names to try codes from.
Can you explain a bit more about the first step? What does 5X, FF, RW, PP, etc. mean?
Those are buttons on your remote.
Ok, following your instructions I am now able to use the remote to control the volume. However, the remote no longer controls the TV power. Is there a way I can control both? Or is it just one or the other?
One or the other (you could potentially control both with CEC if your TV/Soundbar supported CEC functionality and with the Remote programmed in a certain way with TV on or off).
Sigh. Ok. One last question - I want to change it back so the remote controls tv power. To do so I went back to the Platform Secret Screen and undid the “Enable Querying AVRs” setting. Then went to Home/Settings/Remotes/Set up remote for TV control. But I am unable to get the remote to control the TV power now. Any suggestions?
It should just work for TVs again - verify the changed Query setting and try restarting/re-powering everything (Roku/TV/remote) and trying again.
If that doesnt work, lie during setup: say yes to the first question, no to the second until you can manually search, then try your TV's codes.
