The new remote I ordered isn't working right. Is there a way to return it for one that works?

The new remote I ordered to replace the one with my roku ultra isn't working. When the ear buds are plugged in the sound is coming through the speaker on the remote not the earbuds. Can it be returned for one that works? I am very aggravated after waiting weeks for the backordered remote now I get a bad one.
