Clearly, poor battery life is a long-standing, chronic problem, and it's pointless to continue providing models and serial numbers. Roku, you've got a problem.

I go back to the first generation Roku player, with its S-Video output going into a Sony 32XBR100 TV. After adding an XR unit for a video projector, then moving to a second generation Roku, I switched over to the first generation Amazon Fire TV models, and have had several generations of those. The last Fire TV OS update screwed up the audio sync on my two 2K TV's. The 4K Fire TV stick that I still use has automatic frame rate adjustment and it continues to be fine.

What the Fire TV models have in common is excellent remote control battery life. All of them have mic remotes, and the batteries last for literally years. The Roku sticks I bought a couple of weeks ago are rapidly pulling down their remote batteries. The headphone edition from Best Buy has AA batteries, which makes sense given the extra current draw, and I can sort of understand its rapid draining. But the AAA batteries in the Streaming Stick 4K are also quickly losing their charge.

One possible explanation would be that the microphones are actually listening at all times. If they are, the battery problem is something you could fix, but apparently don't wish to do. If that's what you are doing, get out in front of the outrage and stop doing that, Roku.

The test for the batteries draining while the remote isn't in use will be to selectively remove the batteries and track the percentage of remaining charge in the settings to see if it slows down. I'll do that.
