I just purchased a Roku Express TV Streamer and set it up today. It seems to work well (although I didn't know it does not have a TV volume control - surprise). One of the icons on the Home screen is supposed to turn off the TV. This does not work. I have a LG plasma TV. When I tried to shut off the TV using the Roku remote I got a message saying my TVs CEC is not enabled and directing me to Roku cechelp. As directed I opened the settings on my TV and found that it's Simplink (CEC) is enabled. The TV remote has a Simplink button as well. The problem is that clicking on the Roku Express Home screen's "TV Off" icon will not shut off the TV even though the TV's CEC is enabled. Any ideas?
One other thought: It would be nice if the supplied HDMI cable was another foot or two longer.
Re: Roku Express remote will not turn off my LGTV.
Thanks for the tip – it didn’t work.
On my LG TV the SIMPLINK (LG’s CEC) menu option is turned ON. Its description is “Control and play other AV devices connected with HDMI cable without additional cables and settings”. When I press the SIMPLINK button on the TV remote it displays the message “No SimpLink device”. On the Roku Express settings the “1-touch play” box is checked. All this being said and done, when I press any button on the Roku remote it should switch the TV input to the Roku. It doesn't work.
