Remote control doesn't work when I use USB ethernet adapter

I consulted this article before purchasing a Roku Express and compatible usb ethernet adapter(https://support.roku.com/article/360058027813).

Given the information in this article I purchased the Roku Express and UGREEN micro USB to RJ45 Ethernet network adapter.  Upon starting up the Roku to register it, the remote control would not work at all.  I could see the screen on the Roku to select my language but could not navigate with the remote.  I tried replacing the usb ethernet adapter with the original usb power supply and the remote control magically starts working and I have no issues.

Is there some trick to get the remote control to work with the UGREEN micro USB to RJ45 Ethernet network adapter that Roku claims works with the Roku Express model I purchased?  Right now it is nothing more than a paperweight for me.

Thanks.

Perhaps the power output from that device isn't sufficient. A couple of other users can help better, but I'd start running that down. While the device would be expected to work, it could be that device is defective.

Does the remote have a button in the battery compartment?  If so, it may need to be re-paired.  Try holding in the button until the green light comes on.

Re: Remote control doesn't work when I use USB ethernet adapter

The regular Express uses an IR remote, so there's no WiFi reason the remote won't work. Make sure you haven't blocked the front of the Express so the remote can't hit the IR receiver window.

Exactly what model Express did you purchase? The comment I made above doesn't apply to the newest Express/Express+ (3940/3941). If you simply picked up an Express from a local retailer, you might not have the supported version of the Express. Does yours support 4K?

Re: Remote control doesn't work when I use USB ethernet adapter

I've tried 5v 1a and 5v 2.4a and get the same thing.   It's something with the USB network adapter that doesn't let the remote work,  but beyond that I can't figure it out.  Works just fine with the normal power adapter.

Mine isn't a 4k, just a normal Express.  Serial Number is S00820ANA50Y  Model 3930X

But you didn't answer my question: exactly what model Express did you get? That is critical to know, as there are 10 different versions of the Express.

EDIT: you posted the model as I was typing this.

Well, that's why. Per the page you linked, only the 3940/3941 support the USB Ethernet adapter.

Yes, and that model is not supported for the USB Ethernet adapter. Only the two brand new 4K Express players support the adapter, according to the link you posted.
