Remote Batteries constantly dying with Express/Voice Remote

We have two Roku Expresses purchased just a few months ago. Both of the voice remotes that came with them constantly have to have the batteries replaced! We’re going on every two weeks, having to replace batteries! That’s a lot of batteries between the two units! Please help! Is there a fix for this??

Are you sure about the model of your Roku? The Express comes with an IR remote, not a Voice Remote. What's the model number? Settings > System > About

(Note: edited quote to reflect full data)

That remote is the same one that comes with other WiFi Direct devices, and there have been reports similar to what you're experiencing. All of my devices in the last 7+ years have used WiFi Direct remotes, and I've never had the issue.

So, what is the cause? There's never been a determination. I have a theory, but it's only a theory, and most people don't really want to hear it. But here it is.

Perhaps the WiFi Direct remote is working overtime to maintain a connection. This could be because of either a weak network signal, or interference on the same channel from nearby networks. For example, if the Roku is connecting on channel 6, the remote is connecting to the Roku on channel 6 also. And if a nearby network is also running on channel 6 -- a completely different network to which you aren't connected, but still in range and in heavy use -- then it's possible that the nearby network could interfere with the connection between the remote and the Roku device.

Changing the channel your network is running on to a less crowded one may fix it. It may also allow better performance from other devices as a result.

But again, this is only a theory I have. I've seen no confirmation from others, specifically Roku, to back it up.

Alternately, get another remote from a store (Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc) and try it. But, as two separate remotes are experiencing the issue already, I suspect that won't get different results.

Perhaps @RokuDanny-R@RokuMary-F, or @RokuKariza-D have some suggestions, or some of the other users who are better at networks than am I may have some thoughts.

Re: Remote Batteries constantly dying with Express/Voice Remote

I am having the same issue. The remotes in our other two bedrooms have had the same batteries for months, but the voice remote in our living room goes through batteries every 3-4 days. How/where do I locate the serial number on my remote? How do I fix this issue???

Same problem here. Our older one doesn't have the problem. Replacing batteries too often
