Remoku (updated Firefox add-on: February 14, 2014)

Ever want to control your Roku from your PC, Smart Phone, Tablet, Mobile Game System, eBook Reader, or other browsing device, for free? All you need is a modern browser!

Just browse to Chrome, Firefox and Opera extensions. These add an icon to your browser toolbar for easy access to Remoku without leaving the page you are on.

  • An Internet Explorer (8+) Web Slice. To install in IE, click Remoku's About icon. Then hover your mouse over the version information box (beneath the help link), you should see the web slice icon**. Clicking it will cause Internet Explorer to request permission to add Remoku's web slice to your favorites bar.

  • On iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch devices, you can add Remoku to your home screen to launch it full screen and use it like a regular app. Just use the Safari Action button: and choose "Add to Home Screen".

  • Also using Chrome, you can choose to "Create Application Shortcuts" from the Tools menu. Then you can choose to place shortcuts onto your Start Menu, Taskbar, and/or Desktop. Chrome web apps launch in their own window, so you can also use Remoku like a native desktop app.

Your safety and privacy is important. Despite being a web app, once you install Remoku, no information is sent outside your local network. The source code is available for public scrutiny. If you try Remoku and have any problems, please report them here in the thread or via the Issue Report Form. Comments and suggestions are also very welcomed.

Re: Remoku

Ah, finally, I can move channels around! I have the original Roku (back when there is only one model) and the original remote (no star key).

Thank you!

Notes
1.
The game remote has features that have yet to be publicly documented by Roku. If and when documentation is released, Remoku will be updated with support for any features possible.
If and when you need a beta tester, just click on my PM button. I'm using the new remoku and loving it!! Smiley Happy

Re: Remoku

I haven't been able to get this to work. I've tried on both Chrome and Firefox. I have my network IP address filled in, along with the IP of my Roku, which I manually added.

When I press a button within the application, it says 'Sending request to [my roku IP]' but nothing happens.

Are both the computer and Roku on the same local network? Can you see the list of apps at http://YOUR_ROKU_ADDRESS:8060/query/apps ? If both of those are true, then the browser(and thus Remoku) should be able to talk to the Roku. If you can't see the list of apps, we'll have to troubleshoot why. First thing to try is restarting the Roku (just unplug it and plug it back in, then give it time to fully boot up). If you can see the list of apps, I'll need the debug info from the about box (everything between the help link and the wipe settings button) to get started investigating why Remoku can't talk to the Roku.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble you're having.

Re: Remoku

I assume the dump core macro is the sequence that can re-boot a frozen Roku, correct? And the SHOUTcast launcher is like the one that Endless set up where you can put in a URL and it will play on the SHOUTcast channel?

The dump core macro attempts to reboot a frozen Roku. Depending on the cause of the freeze, the network commands might not succeed. And yes, the shoutcast launcher is (more or less) identical to TheEndless'. Thought it would be a convenient place to have it. If I come across (or anyone brings them to my attention) other channels that take advantage of launch parameters, I can add them as well.
