We received Roku as a gift. Purchased a new IR remote, but it is not working at all. Will not connect with either wifi or Roku to even get started. New batteries (twice), used iPhone camera to check for IR light (its fine). I can get the ROKU floater screen up only by unplugging the device, then plugging it back in. But, then, of course, I cant do anything with it because my remote won't work with it. Is it a remote problem or a device problem???

That sounds like a bad device. Does the light on the front of the Roku flash when you press a button on the remote? I'm sure you know this, but you must have a clear line of sight from the remote to the front of the Roku.
