Enhanced voice remotes power off but won’t power on my tv

I recently purchased a Streambar to replace my premiere+.  I also purchased a voice remote pro.  Both enhanced remotes work great for volume and tv power off, but neither one will power my tv on.  I have to use my older remote to power it on.  I have a sharp aquos and tv that is about 5-6 years old.  Any advice?

@Labo185

Note that what I'm about to ask has nothing to do with pairing the remote. If the remote controls the Roku menu, it's paired, and you don't need to pair it again.

Have you configured the remote to work with your TV? Settings > Remotes & devices > [your remote] > Set up remote for TV control

If you haven't tried that, try it.

Re: Enhanced voice remotes power off but won’t power on my tv

The reason the streambar remote and any other remote paired to it didn't need to be programmed for your tv brand is it controls all brands via hdmi-cec. So the problem here is your tv model, when a tv is off its in stand-by state, so it can accept an IR command to turn on. But your model in stand-by doesn't accept cec signal over the hdmi cable. Thats why roku now allows you to program the tv power button to turn on by IR. Which @DBDukes is having you do.

Re: Enhanced voice remotes power off but won’t power on my tv

I have gone through and programmed them both to the tv through the Roku settings menu.  Is it possible this just isn’t going to work with enhanced remotes and I will have to continue to use my original Roku remote or tv remote to power my tv on?  Was hoping to have a 1 remote only situation🤨

It's possible there may be more than one set of commands stored in the Roku remote's library for your brand of tv.

Try setting it up for tv again, but this time lie to it when you reach the first trial that turns the sound off and see if a subsequent trial turns the sound off.  If so, accept that one and see what happens.

Re: Enhanced voice remotes power off but won’t power on my tv

@Labo185

I've not used that model TV, but there have been instances where the first code tried for a TV isn't fully compatible, and you have to try a second, third, or additional code set.

Note that I have a Roku remote controlling a Sony, but it's a different model.

For example, if you pick Sony and the sound stops as expected, but completing the process gives you only partial control overall. try again. When you get to that one again, use the TV remote to turn the audio back on, then tell it "no" and keep trying. You may have to do this multiple times.

You may be aware of why I'm suggesting that, but for others following that have similar issues, here's the reasoning. Let's say there are seven (just picking a number for example purposes only) different code sets for a brand of TV. If the first isn't fully functioning. try again. When you get to the first, it will turn off the sound, as it did previously. But, you're wanting to skip that one. But first, turn the sound back on. Otherwise, you might not know if the second code set works. That's why you turn the sound back on with the TV remote, then tell Roku "no" as if it didn't work. You'll repeat this as many times as necessary until you find one that does work.

Re: Enhanced voice remotes power off but won’t power on my tv

I tried lying to it, 10 times and it then told me my Sharp tv wouldn’t work a Roku remote.  Went back out and back in and got it back to powering off.  Turned it back in with my old remote and now the Pro remote won’t control the power at all lol  I sometimes hate get “new and improved”🙄
