Then yes, it likely is defective. I believe it is covered by a one year warranty, so you should contact Roku support for assistance. Note that this forum is not run by Roku support.
This page should get you started. I believe you have to answer some self-help questions before it provides you a contact phone number. https://support.roku.com/contactus It will not be a toll-free number.
Do not do a web search for Roku Support! There are many, many scam sites that offer to help, and they will have a toll-free number, but they will ask for money, or want to connect to your computer. Roku does not charge for support, and they will NEVER ask to connect to your computer. There's nothing that anyone can do on a computer to troubleshoot a Roku.

New batteries every 2 weeks.
Thanks for the note. We can certainly help get you in touch with our support team. A couple things to note about the issue you mentioned though.
- If you are using remote private listening to connect headphones to your remote and listen to streaming playback, the batteries in your remote will drain at a faster rate.
- If you use remote private listening, and do not disconnect the headphones from your remote when you are finished, this will also continue to drain your remote's batteries.
Please let us know if that still isn't clearing up the issue and we'll help get you in touch with our support team for more help.
Thanks loads! I found out several things I was doing wrong that caused my batteries to drain so fast.
I will now use the ROKU app for private listening.
The remote control is eating batteries period! I use two duracell batteries every 3 days and I never use private listening or voice. The remotes are defective.
Thanks for the note.
