Controlling the volume of a sony sound bar

I am using a roku ultra box in my living room connected to an LG tv with a Sony soundbar.   I leave the tv volume turned down and listen over the sound bar.   I would like to either program my roku remote to control the power or atleast volume of the soundbar.   (I tried on setup it wouldnt connect to anything but the lg tv)  or a new universal remote that will connect to and properly control the roku as well as the soundbar tv and occasiinally my sony bluray player.  I see threads about connecting a universal remote to a roku tv but not roku box.

Roku remotes can only control tv volume and power, it's up to the tv to control the Soundbar via hdmi-cec. So the Soundbar has to be connected to the tv by HDMI. No HDMI, then yes you will need an universal remote. Look at your local Walmart for the Onn 6 universal remote, about $12.50. It's made UEI, so it accepts advanced codes for individual functions, which 5-digit codes.
