I now have a couple terabytes of unusable (on ROKU) video. Looks like my choices are:

1) Throw the POS Roku in the trash and buy something that actually works and has customer support > 0.

2) Spend hundreds of hours re-encoding and hope another firmware "upgrade" doesn't break them again.

Guess which one I'm choosing...

Has anyone tried this fix that worked for me?  Go to settings, audio, HDMI, and then select "Dolby digital" (Even if you don't have a Dolby system) and then it magically fixes everything...

No, dont reencode, this is silly. Video and audio is fine, worked well with any Roku for years. 
Just wait till they stop bouncing the cases around between the million “helpful support” people they hired and it actually goes to a developer that knows what an audio codec is and how it was changed in the 10.0 release.

Hopefully it will happen in the next 6 month.

Or it might fall to a “senior principal product manager” that has never heard of ac3 and he will single handedly rule it as obsolete, no more ac3 support.

Can go either way, depending on their recent hires - if it were qualified engineers or bunch of no-ones.

Wait, what i have just described, is a typical huge corporation process, and Roku is modern dynamic startup, so that cannot be!...

@Saintjohnny the fix of adjusting the HDMI setting works only for playback devices capable of decoding DD.  If a playback device requires PCM-Stereo, the setting change makes no improvement.

Fairly clear up to this point that those who have responded to the issue don't have the depth of understanding to even pass the issue on to a knowledgeable person, let alone discuss it.  Not the first tech company I've encountered lately where the customers seem to know more about the technology than the employees do.

Thanks gk802, this old sound bar must have Dolby support then. I was hoping that wasn't the case and it would fix the issue for more people.

Tried setting it to DD, or PCm, or any other option. Even though i dont have a DD tv, and i mostly listen on the roku remote.

no luck- with DD forced there is no sound at all, not on TV, not on roku remote. The same for other options.

huh - how did you create a ticket?  I've never found a way to contact roku except through this forum (which, obviously, is just pissing in the wind.)   Even insider contacts won't/can't reply.

@keen Chat support was able to create a ticket for me, but the replies have never been any deeper than the level of "have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in", so even tickets do not get to the right people.

Hopefully people thinking about buying this will do some research first. I would think/hope this company will disappear in time.

The customer support will remain the same, though
