Vertical colored lines on half the screen other half is black, how to get to Roku home page?

Hi,

I have a Sony 65 inch 4K TV and a Roku Ultra connected to my Yamaha ARC Receiver. I've had this problem before but I can't remember how I fixed it. When I go to turn on the Roku player all I get is Verticle colored lines on 1/2 of the screen the other half is black. I've tried re-pairing the remote with the Ultra, unplugging the HDMI cables then plugging them back in, but when I checked the input and switched from HDMI ARC to a regular HDMI1 I get a black screen but it's like the Roku home page is right behind it because I can hear the noises the Roku makes I.E. the home sound, the back button sound. The only thing I haven't done is replace the HDMI cables which I don't think that's what it is.

I've had Roku on chat and we had tried everything but they don't have a clue, and actually ghosted me on the chat. So, I'm at my wit's end, but one thing I can say is that it might be the receiver. Has anybody encountered this problem?

Thank you

Any time you connect to the tv through another device, you're counting on everything in the chain working right.

As a troubleshooting step, have you tried connecting your Roku directly to the tv?

Yes, I am having the same problem.  I have vertical colored lines but I can hear sounds.  Have you figured out what to do?  Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, I did, it happened to me twice, I had to write down the info because I had forgotten what I did. Your setup is probably different than mine, but I basically unplugged the HDMI from both ends and reattached them...but there is more to it than that.

  1. Roku is on ARC3  on the input and if there is a black screen but I can hear Roku in the background I need to unplug the ARC HDMI and plug back in on both ends starting with the ARC HDMI plugged into the TV then unplug the HDMI on the Roku. The receiver needs to be on Roku. Then possibly having to re-pair the Roku.
  2. The colored lines going vertical on 1/2 the screen and the other half is black is the Blue-ray player having to be reset by unplugging the power to the Blue Ray player and possibly unplugging the HDMI at both end's and plugging them back in ( and that is on HDMI 1) on the input.

Thank you this is great information!  I do not have a Blue Ray Player nor a box.  Just a regular ROKU TV.  I unplugged the plug from the wall; waited 10 seconds and still have the lines and able to hear ROKU speaking.  Are you saying to unplug from the ROKU TV then the wall?

Thank you for this information.  I am only able to see the lines and hear ROKU speaking.  Just would like to know how to get rid of the lines.  I have already turned off the TV for about 10 seconds but still have the lines.

Re: Vertical colored lines on half the screen other half is black, how to get to Roku home page?

Do you have your system hooked up to your receiver? Because my problem was with the receiver's HDMI setting and the fact that I unplugged the HDMI from the Roku to the TV at both ends. See, my receiver has an input that switches over to Roku when I turn on Rohu and select "the Roku on your tv's list of inputs", it's supposed to do it automatically, but sometimes you have to do it manually. I hope this helps, let me know if any of these suggestions work on your system.

I have a Sony 4K tv.

Re: Vertical colored lines on half the screen other half is black, how to get to Roku home page?

No. I unplugged the HDMI cable from the Roku player then from the tv then unplugged the power from the player for about a minute, plugged everything back in. Now, my system being plugged into my receiver might be a different workaround for you...all I know is it is something simple and there's nothing wrong with your player or tv. And my advice is do not contact Roku support because every time I've contacted them they gave me the run-around for an hour and didn't get anything accomplished.
