Unable to hook up Roku to play through our receiver speakers

We have Samsung Smart TV and can’t figure out how to connect the Roku to receiver and play through the speakers. The cable is connected and plays through the speakers with no problem.

Re: Unable to hoopla up Roku to play through our receiver speakers

Your best bet is to hook up your Roku via HDMI cable to your receiver, and then HDMI cable to the back of your Samsung..

However, we need model numbers of both your Samsung TV AND your receiver, in order to really get specific.

Also, how are other things hooked up to the receiver, currently?
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Our Samsung TV is a Series 56 and our stereo receiver is a Yamaha (older model) HTR5640.

It is currently set up as...HDMI from Roku to TV, RCA to the stereo to the cable box and HDMI from cable box to TV.

Re: Unable to hook up Roku to play through our receiver speakers

Well, the exact model of the receiver tells me you have no HDMI to plug your Roku into in that fashion..

You COULD plug the Roku into the Samsung TV and then, if the TV has an optical audio out, run that to the receiver for audio, assuming the TV has digital optical output.. Samsung Series 56 is not the model number of your television, by the way.. there should be a more specific model number somewhere on the back of the TV.

It's kind of complicated because that receiver is so old for the new technology you're plugging into it. If I were you and your budget allows it, I'd get a newer receiver with HDMI jacks, so that everything will be much more plug and play.

Re: Unable to hook up Roku to play through our receiver speakers

Sorry about that...our Samsung Smart TV nodle's number UN50H6203AFXZA

Does this help? I'm not sure where you are located. I'm in Central Standard Time and it is currently 11:45pm. Would it be possible for either me to call you around 33pm tomorrow or can you call me on my cell at [personal information removed]? My husband has given up within 30 min and I know with your help; I can accomplish the connection.

Thank you,

Re: Unable to hook up Roku to play through our receiver speakers

Add to the lack of hdmi, this amp doesn't decode DD+, so no surround from netflix, if that's of interest.

Rachel, we're not official support techs here.. you may want to edit your post to not include your telephone number.. not a great idea to share your number with the internet. These forums are searchable thru Google.

If I’m reading this correctly, you cable box output is going directly to the sound system? Or is it simply speakers could nnected to your cable box?

It looks to me like the stereo/sound system only has input from your cable box.

Confirm how and to what all the cable box is connected.
