Spotify freezes, music keeps playing

Recently, Spotify has begun to intermittently freeze when playing music. The music continues playing, but the screen does nothing. Sometimes it stays on the standard "now playing" screen, showing that it's partway through a given song, but not updating even when the song changes; other times the screen goes completely grey.

The music continues playing, moving on to the next song in an album/playlist as appropriate. The app no longer responds to outside control at that point (from a PC or phone logged in to the same Spotify account), or to commands from the Roku remote. Have to power cycle the Roku by unplugging it. Usually this fixes the problem, but lately it has required two or three restarts for the Roku to work again.

When problems are confined to a particular channel, it may be that the channel didn't install properly, that it didn't update correctly, or that the installation has otherwise gotten corrupted. A reinstall may fix the problem, so give it a try. Remove/reinstall procedure:

  1. Highlight channel on home screen.
  2. Press * key and choose Remove channel option.
    Restart the Roku to clear its memory via Settings > System > System restart. (On a Roku TV, this is Settings > System > Power > System restart.)
  4. Reinstall the channel. Note it will be added to the END of the channel grid.
  5. If channel requires a login, you may need to log in anew.
