Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

After watching Waypoint app for an hour or so the Roku stick reboots to the start up screen “bouncing Roku”. Every Roku stick I have does this but only with this app (Waypoint).

Re: Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

Hi @Mmr1229

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Could you tell us how your Roku sticks are powered? Are they connected to the USB port of the TV or to a wall outlet? In some cases, the USB power provided by the TV is not sufficient to power the device. Even though your Roku device may appear to be working, running with insufficient power can lead to instability, crashing, and other unpredictable behavior.

Using the included power cord and power adapter, we suggest plugging your Roku into a working power outlet in the wall. Powering it through a power outlet in the wall has the additional advantage that your Roku player will not need to power up every time you turn on your TV. This means your Roku player will be up and running faster than it would be connected to a TV.

Please keep us posted.

All the best,
Kariza

Re: Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

I'm sorry, but that is a completely pathetic response. It doesn't answer any part of the question that was asked.

It doesn't take much to power any Roku and one would hope and expect that any Roku provided power adapters, etc are sufficient to run it. It is obviously working...I highly doubt anyone purchased a Roku to only watch Waypoint and nothing else.

I'm only contributing here because I too have a Roku and just tried using the Waypoint TV app, but I only get about 5-10 minutes before it crashes and restarts my Roku device. I'll add that at one point, this app had worked. But as of some time earlier this year, it quit working. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app a few times and I often check for updates on the channels and Roku device. Nothing seems to help.

Maybe it's just an app issue and we need to take it up with the developers of Waypoint. Even that would have been a more acceptable response. Thank you,

Eric

Re: Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

I am in the safe boat as the OP and reply. However after changing out to a Hisense Roku TV the waypoint app does not work at all! I am plugged into a wall outlet. The app begins the start up process (waypoint screen the three horizontal light scrolling bars) for about 20 seconds then I’m booted back to the roku main menu screen. This is the only app on that does this.

Hey @Skelton512

Thanks for the post.

If you haven't tried yet, you can remove the Waypoint channel then re-install it. To ensure the process is successful, make sure to restart your device before adding the channel back in. We would recommend doing this from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings System System restart > Restart.

For detailed instructions, refer to this Support link: How do I resolve channel playback issues?

Let us know how it goes!

Re: Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

Ive tried all your suggestions!! They don't solve the problem. Maybe the waypoint people need to be contacted to see if the problem is within there app. I emailed them this morning. I will let you guys know if they respond, but I think the people of Roku would have a better chance of pressuring them to resolve the problems, if there are any.

Re: Roku stick reboots after playing Waypoint App for an hour or so

I don't know how much pressure Roku could or should put on channels – every time they have a dispute with one, it makes lots of people angry.  And, if you look at this case in particular, this is the only thread I see complaining about Waypoint, and there are four people complaining out of 55 million Roku subscribers.  Should Roku be putting pressure on 1 of their ~5000 channels over that?

The Waypoint channel only has 686 ratings in the channel store, so it's apparently not that heavily viewed.  However, the complaints in this thread so far represent well under 1% of the people who have rated it, so overall, it doesn't really seem to be that bad. Ie: I don’t know that Roku should apply pressure because ~1% of an obscure channel's viewers are complaining about issues.

The only channel I've had a crash on has 4460 reviews and I just shrugged and thought: Yeah, obscure channel, they probably can't afford to put a lot of resources on it.  However, I do think it's worth letting waypoint know about it, because I'm sure they'd prefer to know about issues and will try to fix them if they can.
