Roku MHL Stick and HDMI port

So there are several posts on this matter but do not specifically answer my question. On one tv, roku works fine. On another tv, where i need it, it is not recognized. The light does not come on. I use direct tv and a blue ray player in the HDMI ports in question. Everything works independently but the two are not working together. Why?

Re: Roku Stick and HDMI port

What is the brand/model of the TV that works and the one that doesn't? Which Roku Stick? There have been several different models. How are you powering the stick, with a TV USB port or the wall plug?

Re: Roku Stick and HDMI port

The tv it works on is a 2.5 year old jvc that came with the roku stick in the box. The tv that roku does not work with is a ruffly 6 year old Panasonic with 3 HDMI ports. All that work with other devices.

Sorry, the roku itself is a stick only with HDMI male, a light, and a reset button. Nothing else, not even a label.

What's the model number of the TV and the stick? It may be an MHL stick and won't work in a regular HDMI port.

Re: Roku Stick and HDMI port

If the Roku came with the tv, most likely it is the MHL HDMI version of the Roku stick. Will only work with "Roku Ready" TVs.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Ok, makes sense but what is MHL?

Re: Roku Stick and HDMI port

Yeah, what jeffrok said. Roku had some deal worked out with some TV manufacturers that included MHL ports (a variation on HDMI, to put it simply) that would run MHL Roku Sticks. This was some years ago, as the MHL Sticks (models 3400, 3420) went out of production four years ago.

As was said, those Sticks will only work on TVs with MHL ports. Many of them said "Roku Ready" on the box.
