Solving playback issues

I set up a roku express but my older Bose sound system does not work with it. My Apple TV did. Splitter?

Do you mean like an HDMI audio extractor?  Ie: you have no HDMI inputs on the Bose?  If so, then yes.  But buy it from a place with good return policies because they seem to be a bit "hit or miss".

Yes, the Bose 3-2-1 is pre-digital. So what I am looking for is an “audio extractor”?

The Apple Tv box, (gen.2) had a plug called “Optical Digital Audio Port.” Worked fine w/Bose.  No Roku has this.

In years past, Roku made devices with "legacy" ports on them, but I suppose not enough people bought them and they stopped.  These days, the HDMI audio extractor is your best bet.  Another trick that might work for you is to run an optical out from the TV to the audio system.  Most TVs have an optical out for this reason.
