Re: ROKU screen flickering all of a sudden

I took a closer look at the specs for your TV and it is only capable of 720p (progressive scan), however, it appears to support 1080i (interlace). It's possible that somehow the TVs internal reporting of it's capabilities may be causing some confusion for your Roku device. I'll pass your report along to my team to take a closer look, and follow up with you via private message for any additional details that we may need.

Thanks,

Tanner

Re: ROKU screen flickering all of a sudden

I'm having the same issue with my Roku Premiere+ and my LG Smart TV. I've tried different HDMI cables, ports, a different TV, hard reset, but nothing works. I plug in my Roku to power, it shows the "bouncing" Roku screen, then flickers black, then No Signal, then black, over and over again. The light on the Roku itself stays on.

If it's doing that after all those steps, then it most likely is defective. Roku has a pretty good warranty, so hopefully @RokuTannerD or @RokuDanny-R will get back to you for more details.

@NickBuol  No updates as of yet. Just in case, have you contacted your TV manufacturer to see if they have any further support or troubleshooting options available?

@kparedes  What is the specific TV brand and model that your device is connected to? In Settings>Display type, what option do you currently have selected?

Thanks,

Tanner

Tanner - thanks for reaching out. It seems to have resolved itself for now. I turned it on this evening with no issues.

Vizio offers no support of this model, and no firmware update exists from what I could find.

The TV works with all over devices via HDMI.  Dish satellite (what we are trying to get rid of with Roku devices for streaming), a Sony Blu-Ray player, and I even tried an XBox One S.  They all work perfectly.  It is just the new Roku Express (2019 version in my case) that doesn't work right.

Roku Premier screen flickering and no signal

Jump to solution

All the threads on flickering screens and no signal are over a year old or more. Starting a new one since this started just a couple weeks ago.

I'm experiencing a problem on my Roku Premiere that started in the last two weeks. The screen flickers, sometimes shows static and then my tv shows no signal from the Roku. I've tried multiple HDMI ports on the TV with the same results. I usually have to unplug the Roku and plug it back in to get it to work again. We've had this Roku for almost a year now with no problems and it just started in the last couple of weeks.

I tried the solution from a previous thread and the setting from the thread below gave about disabling the `Auto-Adjust refresh rate` didn't help. That setting is already set to disabled on my roku so I am not sure what else to do.

Any help would be great as I have to power cycle my roku multiple times a day now because of this.

Thanks!

Re: Roku Premier screen flickering and no signal

This exact same thing is happening to my Roku Ultra, ever since Roku Co pushed their 9.2.0 build 4131-46 software update to it on Nov 1st. It keeps cycling to black and briefly saying No Signal as I navigate. I have not been able to use this box ever since, because it's just not watchable like this. I've connected other devices and they work just fine. It's only this Roku Ultra doing this for almost 2 weeks now.

I am now considering another brand streaming device, because I can't use any of my streaming services anymore. And there's been no word of allowing us to roll back this flawed software update or about a fix being rolled out by Roku anytime soon. So very frustrating and disappointing!

Re: Roku Premier screen flickering and no signal

I too have been having a similar issue. Mostly it flashes black really fast while watching using ROKU. It happens consistently that I notice it every time it occurs. The issue started within the past month (about two/three weeks ago). There was one time when I turned on TV, ROKU had that 'old school' static TV/snow flake screen.

The only 'workaround' that I've found is to do a system restart within ROKU - but after a while it acts up again. I really wish that there was a better fix for this sudden issue.
