Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

When was it "resolved" and "how"?

I have an Ultra with the optical port, checked this afternoon, still doing just stereo when it should not be with OS 9.  So again resolved how and when?

Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

It was resolved by the last release of 8.1 for the 2016 Ultra.

Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

I can confirm that with my new Roku Ultra 4640 connected via optical cable to my older Denon receiver I get DD5.1 with the latest current v9.0 firmware release.
I manually select DD5.1 or DD5.1/DTS for the optical/HDMI audio output format in the Roku's settings.
This is working for me with Netflix, Amazon prime video and VUDU both for DD5.1 or DD5.1+ title. My older Denon receiver doesn't support DD+ so the 4640 apparently is as expected converting DD+ to DD5.1 on the optical audio output OK.  Also works for youtube videos that have DD5.1 or DD+, as well as video files on a USB flashdrive with DD5.1 or DTS audio tracks.

I also notice that the HDMI audio output to my 2012 Panasonic plasma HDTV from the Roku Ultra only is audible thru the TV if PCM stereo audio mode is selected, thats also what is selected if "auto" is used since stereo is detected from the TV.  I guess thats because when I override the audio output to DD5.1 for my Denon receiver using optical output, the HDMI also outputs in that same format and the TV can't process it in that format?  Some other HDTVs apparently can decode DD or DTS, since my other HDTV (a Samsung) in Roku audio auto mode detects "DD5.1/DTS" for that TV without any receiver, just the TV.  Is all of this normal and expected operation for the Roku Ultra 4640?

I also noticed that the 4640 doesn't have the nightime or leveling option now like some other Roku models have, is that correct?

Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

Nighttime Listening mode disappearing from the 4640 in 9.0 is a bug that will be fixed.

Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

When will the lack of surround sound be addressed?

Re: No more 5.1 Sound -Ultra Stopped Supporting Dolby D

The lack of surround sound on the 4640 in 8.1 was addressed in July. Everyone using a 4640 should have gotten the update. If you are experiencing a problem with a different product OR 9.0 please post to the appropriate thread. This is not the correct thread to use for anything other than 4640 and 8.1 firmware.
