No signal on tv screen

Can anyone tell me why, after I 

1) turn on the right hardware (tv, cable box, and sound bar),

2) set my tv to the correct source,  

3) set my sound bar to the right hdmi and input settings, and

4) use the Roku remote on my iPhone (the actual Roku remote stopped working five minutes after we bought it), 

that randomly, like tonight when I can’t sleep, I can’t see Roku on my tv screen? This thing is driving me insane.
