No audio

Just got my Roku Express. Set up went fine. Connected to account. All seemed well. Then tried playing video. No sound. Nothing. Tried different apps (Disney Plus, Etc). Picture fine. Sound not at all. Checked tv. Not on mute and volume up. Tried every audio setting on Roku. No sound. 

i have the Roku box connected directly to TV via HDMI. There IS sound when the start up screen comes on - where the Roku logo bounces and it plays a shirt tune. So I know it can produce sound. Why no sound? What is the fix for this?

 

Getting ready to return (and will try an Amazon fire stick) if I can’t get this solved.
