Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

I did check the audio options during playback and nothing was enabled.

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

OK, it's just something that has to be verified. I'll give Disney+ a try after I finish working today and see if I get Atmos. I only have one room with Atmos support.

Dan,

Thanks.  What do you have for AVR/AVP ?  I'm wondering if the problem is with my Marantz not recognizing the DD+ container as a Dolby Atmos soundtrack ?

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

I have a Yamaha RX-V583 on that particular set. It is connected to a LG Nano85 TV that supports Dolby Vision, and I have the Ultra 4800 and a Shield connected to the AVR, which also both support DV. I have another Yamaha AVR that doesn't support Atmos or DV, and it's connected to a Samsung JU7100, which also doesn't support DV. That will likely be the next TV I replace, but it's in the bedroom and doesn't get a lot of serious use, so it's fine for now.

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

I'm watching Disney+ right now, the 3rd episode of Boba Fett. My AVR is showing DD+/Atmos and the TV is showing Dolby Vision. The Ultra 4800 is set to audio passthrough.

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

Thanks for checking on this Dan.  I do get Dolby Vision but definitely just 5.1 DD+ audio when using the "passthrough" option.  Does anything change when you switch to the "Auto" option ?

I think I will end up submitting a ticket with Marantz but I am checking for user input on AVS Forum first.

Also curious as to the difference between the "passthrough" and "auto" settings.  Is it simply that with "auto" the decoding is done by the Roku ?

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

OK, I switched the Digital output format from Passthrough to Auto and tried Disney+ again. I still got Atmos, but them audio was reported as PCM. I notice right now on the settings menu with nothing playing the AVR is still indicating PCM/Atmos. This is bogus, as Atmos should only be shown with actual Atmos content. This is telling me the 4800 is converting ALL audio to PCM/Atmos. When I switch back to Passthough, the AVR returns to just PCM, which is accurate for being on the menu. Passthrough is also necessary for my DTS media on my server.

Re: No Dolby Atmos for Disney Plus Channel - New Roku 4800X

And this is another reason I want to use "passthrough".  I don't want the Roku upconverting (faking) a soundtrack.  I just want it to pass through the best available audio from the app/source.

I completely agree. And that's the way Passthrough works for me.
