I recently replaced an old ROKU 3 with a ROKU Premiere 3290CA v9.2.0 build 4806. Dropped into existing system (HDMI cable, TV, receiver, speakers, etc.). When playing any content (Netflix, YouTube, or Prime Video), I hear "popping" or "ticking" sounds. Frequent (no more that 10 seconds between "pops" or "ticks"). Usually 2 or 3 "pops" or "ticks" at a time. Bad sound! Very annoying!
Wifi is fairly lightly used; while watching on ROKUs, a few phones and tablets are active but idle (we're watching a show!). ISP provides a solid 40Mbps connection via cable modem.
I turned off auto stereo, but still had crackle sound. I turned off auto detect and selected Dolby digital, still had crackle sound. I restarted my Roku (which I had already done before turning off the auto detect features). , no crackles now (5 minutes), hopefully this fixed the problem. I also had no problems with the Roku 3 after plugging it back in to make sure it was not a cable issue. I also verified it wasn’t a speaker issue by using my tv speakers and then going back to my sound bar speakers (crackled the same on both. If you turn off the auto detect you may need to restart the Roku for it to take effect (or maybe it was just a coincidence in my case).
