If this had been my first ROKU it would have been my last.

Model 3930x-ROKU Express, Software Version 10.0.0 build 4209-AE

I have a drawer full of ROKU devices from upgrading through the years but I sincerely regret this last upgrade. I have had nothing but problems since I plugged it in. I know you guys tout the "always stays on" feature but I feel like that may be the problem, at least for mine. I have to unplug and replug every time I turn on the TV and it is always quite warm. The problems....constantly disconnects from wifi, remote refuses to work, it buffers, shows a black screen and sometimes gives a HDMI error. I only watch TV at night and having to get up and fight with this device is not exactly conducive to the state of relaxation I be trying to achieve! Do you suppose I may have a seriously defective device?

It's possible. Roku devices are generally reliable, as you should know, having owned several. I'd consider warranty replacement or return. If return, you might want to look at the Express 4k+, as that is a vastly superior device, particularly since it's on sale, and comparable in price to the entry-level models you've had.
