How to verify streaming player is still working

I have a Roku model 2710X purchased in 2014.  When I switch the TV source to the Roku, I do not get the Roku opening screen.  Instead I get the cable TV channel I was tuned to.  Unplugging and reconnecting power to the Roku does not solve the problem.  I don't know anything else to try.  I wonder is the Roku must be replaced.
