How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

I just purchased a Roku Ultra 2021 version. One of the most annoying and frustrating things I am seeing is if I am watching any channel, does not matter what channel it is, via a streaming service (like Pluto TV as an example), I am constantly being harassed to add the specific channel to my Favorites every freakin 30 minutes. This prompt comes up and unless I actually pick up the remote and cancel it it remains on the screen like a bad dream. This is utterly annoying and I am wondering if there is a way to disable this permanently. I prefer NOT to have to cancel this prompt every 30 minutes and it gets in the way of my Closed Captioning.

PLEASE someone tell me how to get rid of this annoying prompt. The ONLY thing I find on the Internet is related only to ROKU TVs and going to Settings / TV inputs. My Ultra box... does not have 'TV inputs' as an option in my Settings screen.

Re: How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

Your Ultra is probably the 4800, which is a 2020 model. Roku hasn't released any new Ultra yet this year. So far the Express 4K/4K+ are the only 2021 models.

That said, the Roku itself doesn't have a Favorite Channel function. I have no idea what you're seeing, but I don't believe it's coming from the Roku itself. Perhaps it's within a channel you're using, or perhaps it's even your TV (although if it clears with the Roku remote that's not likely).

Re: How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

Thats entirely a function of the Pluto TV app.

You need to contact Pluto TV and give them feedback:  https://support.pluto.tv/hc/en-us/requests/new

I will investigate that further... Many thanks. If it is indeed Pluto then I am going to send them a blistering email to be sure.

I find that curious though as this has only happened on the ROKU box. On the TV itself and on my other TV's I've never seen this issue with Pluto. The one I am 'whining' about is the only one with a ROKU box attached and just began showing this issue after it was installed.

You can't really compare apps on different platforms. They may look identical, but they are programmed in a completely different language, so it's common for different platforms to work differently. Smiley Happy

Re: How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

If this is entirely a function of Pluto TV, then how come I was able to disable this annoying "add to favorites" on my Fire TV and Fire TV sticks.  I have been putting up with this annoyance with the Roku and Roku Ultimate for far too long.  It's dumb to have an app like Pluto that has a good functioning guide, and then ask to add channels to a Favorites that is just the top portion of their regular guide.  You wind up with a jumbled mess of channels at the top.  I'm replacing my Roku's with the Fire TV Cube.

@TiredRetired

It is a function of Pluto TV. The different apps for different platforms can work different ways, since they are all separate operating systems and require separate apps. The Roku app is not the same code as the Apple TV app, which isn't the same code as the Fire TV app, which isn't the same code as the Android/Google TV app. And Pluto (actually ViacomCBS) builds all the apps for all the platforms.

No, it is not!  How come a Fire Stick has the ability to disable it, but Roku does not?  Answer the question, and don't spout app **bleep**.  The problem is specific to Roku.  No other platform has this issue with Pluto.

Re: How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

The Fire TV stick is programmed in a completely different language than Roku devices. Apps on different platforms might not work the same. We can't guess why Pluto has made them function differently on different platforms. But it's still under their control, not the Roku device.

Re: How to disable Add Favorite channel popping up every 30 minutes.

@TiredRetired

That's how Pluto TV coded the Roku app. The Roku app and the Fire TV app are not the same app. If you think they are, you are thinking incorrectly. They are coded to look and pretty much work alike. But it is very likely that different teams wrote the different apps.

Whether you understand that or not does not change the fact. If my bluntness bothers you, well, I'm trying to share facts with you. But your username including "retired" in it suggests you're close to my age, maybe even as old as I am. You may not understand that software apps running on different platforms are not the same code (therefore, not the same app), because you don't have a background in that area. But listen to those that do. Areas where you have experience, you would be one to listen to, even if I didn't fully understand all the ins and outs of it. But in this area, you obviously don't have the experience. That's just how it is. The fact is, Pluto TV coded the app differently. If you want to spend money to get different devices, by all means do it; you need no one's permission. But if Pluto TV turns around and codes an update to the Fire TV app to function like you don't like, think back to this thread. It will all become clear then.
