Hissing noise with Streaming Stick+ 3810X and Vizio Soundbar


I have a Roku Streaming Stick+ 3810X plugged into a Samsung 4K TV. The TV is connected to a Vizio 2.1 soundbar through an optical cable.

When I watch some streaming content (in particular, Netflix), I often hear a hissing noise in addition to whatever audio is meant to be heard.

I've tried every audio setting combination available to me - forcing to Stereo, allowing all defaults, etc. - and nothing seems to solve this issue.

This issue occurs on both OS 8.2 and OS 9.0.

The issue doesn't occur if I use the Netflix app installed on my Samsung Smart TV itself - it's only when using the Roku app.

Is there some compatibility issue between the Roku device and my TV or soundbar?
