Google Play affecting Roku Box output

Tried to watch a film ordered and streamed from Google Play last night and again this morning.

As soon as film started there was jumping to both picture and sound.
Strangely this continued on the Roku output even after leaving the Google Play App as if something on the stream had affected the Roku output in general.

The jumping/interference stopped with a box re-start but started again every time we tried to watch the from on Google Play til we eventually gave up.

All other streams are working fine. Any suggestions what could be causing Google Play to be affecting the box output in this way?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Google Play affecting Roku Box output

When problems are confined to a particular channel, it may be that the channel installation has gotten corrupted.  A reinstall may fix the problem, so give it a try.

 Remove/reinstall procedure:

  1. Highlight channel on home screen.
  2. Press * key and choose Remove channel option.
  3. IMPORTANT- DON'T SKIP:
From home screen, Settings > System > System restart. This assures no remnant of the old installation remains in the Roku's memory so you get a complete reinstall. It may or may not make a difference, depending on what's causing your problem, but it's worth doing.
  4. Reinstall the channel. Note it will be added to the END of the channel grid.
  5. If channel requires a login, you may need to log in anew.

Re: Google Play affecting Roku Box output

Great idea. Sadly it didn't work.

I wonder if it is something to do with the frame rate. It's very odd as all the other channels still work fine and the same movie streams fine on my phone and tablet.

The strangest thing is the flicker occurring even after I leave the Google Play app, as if if it's changing the output settings for the Roku box.

Re: Google Play affecting Roku Box output

Roku is gradually rolling out a new version of their operating system.

Settings > System > System update > [press OK]
What software version does it say you have and when was the last update?  If you have version 9.4, does the start of this problem coincide with when you received the update?

Yes, I have version 9.4.0

This update was installed 2 days ago and coincides with the start of the issue.

Perhaps the Google Play channel app needs to be updated for the new operating system version.   Have you tried reinstalling it?
