Display does not fill screen

I have an external Roku, one of the very early models, which I use with a Samsung TV.   Today when I turned on my TV the display was too narrow for the screen--in other words there were blank areas on the left and right sides of the display.   This does not occur when I play a DVD or view over-the-air channels so I assume it is not the display monitor.    Has anyone else experienced and resolved this?

Thanks,

Sandy

I'd suggest editing your post (click the three vertical dots at upper right) to remove your email address.  This is a publicly-accessible forum and spammers use bots to scan the net to collect publicly posted addresses.

As to your problem, if this is a REALLY early Roku model, did its picture size setting get set to 4:3 instead of 16:9?  I don't remember what the menu path was to get to this -- if it is the same as with current models, it would be Settings > Display type.

If that's not the solution ...

Does occur for everything, or just for older programs and movies that were not created in wide screen format?  Does the Roku home screen fill your tv screen?

Have you tried different picture size settings on the TV?  On my Samsung remotes, this is the "P. Size" button.

Re: Display does not fill screen

makaiguy, thank you for your prompt response.   The problem did turn out to be the P. Size on the Samsung remote, which somehow got set to 4:3.   (I was thrown off because DVD and over-the-air did not have the problem, and I assumed it was the Roku.)   Thanks also for the tip about removing my e-mail.
