Dialog volume is low compared to other audio

Brand new Roku streaming stick + and a 2 year old Sony Bravia television. When playing any content from any of the apps (Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix) whenever there is dialog with either audio score or sound effects (or both) the dialog is totally drowned out by the other audio. I have tried changing all of the audio settings on the stick to stereo only and playing around with the settings on the TV. There aren't all that many audio options on the stick so I seem to have exhausted that avenue. I don't seem to have the same issue with any other streaming device I have used so I'm pretty convinced its not the TV but the streaming stick. Is this a common issue? Any suggestions on how to sort it out?
