Deteriorating audio

Every 60-90 days, my Roku Express will distort the audio on any program, live or recorded, to the point of inaudibility: to resolve this I must perform a factory reset which is a considerable bother for the 30 minutes it takes to reload and sign in to various apps/channels. Any suggestions?

Doing a factory reset should be reserved as a last ditch desperation measure.

Do you try doing a simple restart first?  Settings > System > System restart.
