DD audio help before I return my Ultra and leave Roku :(

Last week I cut the cord and I liked the Roku interface a lot and bought a stick for my upstairs and an Ultra for my family room that has a receiver.  After installing the Ultra I noticed the audio only came out in Stereo to my receiver.  I did some searching and even did a chat with Roku about this issue.  I made sure night mode was off, Audio leveling was off, and I changed my Audio from Auto to the surround sound mode.  After changing the setting I reset the box.  I still can only get Stereo sent to my receiver no matter what app I use.  My main app I use is Hulu and I know that sends in DD as if I use my Smart TV instead of my Roku it transmits in DD perfectly to my receiver.  I have seen threads about this issue when Ultra was updated to I think it was 8.1, but I read mixed results on getting this fixed.  I love the Roku interface but if I can get proper sound to my system their is not a point of staying with Roku.  As I am not an Apple fan it looks like Amazon Fire will have what I need, but I can't say I like their interface that much.  But I can get used to a interface if needed a long as the hardware works right.  Thanks for any help.

Hulu doesn't do DD. Look online.. your other devices might be converting Hulu to DD, but as far as I know, Hulu is only stereo.. ...unless this has changed in the past year.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Guess I was wrong.. they rolled out 5.1 support for SOME devices, but not Roku:

Note that all the devices listed have much better hardware than most Roku devices. Maybe it's a hw limitation (for now).
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Thanks for that link.  At least I know now for sure that Amazon supports it.  Just wish Amazon had a better interface.

Can you guide us through your setup?  What is hooked to what and how, what are the model of your TV and receiver?

I think it's been verified that Hulu doesn't do 5.1 on Roku (yet)..

Here's the official word from Hulu+

@OP What model of AVR do you have? Does it do DD+?
What model of TV? How is the Roku connected? to AVR or TV?
Is there ARC between the TV and the AVR?
Usually Auto is the best setting for the Audio Settings.

I have a denon x1300w. I have the Ultra plugged into my Receiver and then my receiver to the TV. If I run Hulu from my Ultra I get stereo. If I run Hulu from my smart tv to receiver I get full DD mode.

That setup is capable of sending DD+ to the AVR.
If you are direct connected to the AVR, the correct settings are Auto/Auto for Audio settings on the Roku.
Do you have Netflix or Amazon VOD, have you tried them to see if you can get DD+?
The Hulu channel on your TV is not the same as the Hulu channel on the Roku, also, the streams they pull can be different. Not sure if there is a setting wrong on Hulu. That is all under control by Hulu. If you have any surround sound local media you could try Roku Media Player channel and see that works just to see if Roku is sending DD or DD+ or even DTS to the AVR.

Dale, it looks like at this time, DD/surround isn't supported by Roku devices..
