Choppy sound

I’m experiencing a choppy sound on any channel I watch on roku. The best way to describe the sound is: if a car drives by on a show I’m watching, instead of hearing a smooth “shhhhhhhhhhhhhh” sound, I hear “shh tsh tshhh tsh tsh tsh tshhh tshh.” I have a Roku 2 XD. I’ve tried different HDMI cables and ports, and I hear it from both the TV speakers and wireless headphones, so it’s not the TV speakers. I’ve tried unplugging the roku for both 30 seconds and up to 15 minutes and neither works.

Re: Choppy sound

Could be your Roku is dying.. the XD is a 7 year old model. Even if you just upgrade to a Roku Express, your performance will be so much better. I do recommend the Roku Stick over the Express though.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Re: Choppy sound

Try unplugging the roku and plugging it back in.

I'm had the same problem on a brand new Roku Ultra. Started last week after owning it for barely a month. Tried everything I could think of, moving tvs, roku's, nothing worked. I'd put the roku on a different tv and it worked fine, but when I moved it back to the first tv the sound was still so choppy it was unwatchable. Of course, I was able to do this without unplugging the roku.

When i finally unplugged the roku from the electricity and plugged it back in, that's when the choppy sound went away.

Re: Choppy sound

Thanks unplugging it worked for me. I've only been using it 2 weeks and this happened.

Re: Choppy sound

Been having the same issue for a few months.  A system reset usually works for a few days.  Haven't been able to pin down the issue.

4th Roku.  Older models did not have this "feature".

Re: Choppy sound

Yep mine is doing this more and more often. Reboot fixes it, doing it twice a day now. Roku Ultra 2018

Re: Choppy sound

I am finding that I have to restart the Roku quite often. I wish Roku could pin down the issue. It does not seem to be specific to a particular app, they all have the choppy audio issue when the Roku gets into this state.

Re: Choppy sound

+1 for all this (bought an ultra in 2020). When it happens it seems to happen in all the apps and unplugging it from the power seems to be the only solution. Happens frequently enough to be quite annoying Smiley Sad otherwise the Roku is awesome.

Re: Choppy sound

Just do Settings/System/System restart

Roku Ultra ---Ethernet rules---

From now on if people dont upvote me and do as I say I will consider holding my breath and selling my Roku's.

Re: Choppy sound

Fair point - will try that in the future, thanks. Wonder if this is something that will ever get addressed? Or if it’s some kind of hardware/firmware issue.
