Black Screen with 4K Roku Stick (3810R) on Sony HD CRT (30XS955)

I hooked up a brand new 4K Roku Stick (3810R) up to my Sony HD CRT (30XS955). I ran through the initial setup, finish connecting it to WiFi, and then I get a black screen. I waited a while and nothing. I hooked the Roku up to a new TV, finished the setup, updated the Roku, and tested it out - it works fine. Back on the CRT, after the dancing Roku displays, I still get a black screen. I figure, maybe I need to manually set the Roku to 720p, a resolution the TV accepts. Nope.. black screen.

The TV handles 720p without issue over HDMI using a laptop, a Steam Link, and an Android TV box, so this is very odd.

Things I've tried already:

  • Make sure Roku is on latest software version
  • Set video output to auto
  • Manually set resolution on Roku to 720p
  • Manually set analog PCM stereo audio output
  • Reset Roku
  • Verify HDMI port works with other devices at the same resolution
  • Verify Roku works on another device

Are you using a HDMI cable?

I dont have to tell you CRT's are ancient these days.

Do you have another HDMI port to try?

It's a Roku stick...so it plugs right into the HDMI port on the TV. And no.. there's one HDMI and it's been confirmed working as explained.

It may not be working well enough.

An HDMI cable if you have one might provide a better connection.

Do you RCA cables/adapter to try?

I used to have a Sony flatscreen CRT which I gave up on years ago and never looked back.
