Another Roku Premiere overheating.

This site doesn't make it easy to find help... Anyway I did some poking around and it seems this is a common issue but I didn't see any resolutions yet. My Roku sits behind and below my TV on a corner cabinet, so it's not receiving extra heat from nearby devices. It gets warm if I just leave it on the screensaver or main menu, but any time I stream 4k content (the main reason I bought the thing), it isn't long before I get a warning message.

Have people modded their devices? Is it faulty? You'd think the product would have some ventilation.

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

Hello @DPsx7

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Please reply here with the serial number of the Roku Premiere experiencing overheating. It can be located in Settings > System > About

Once we have the information needed, we'll be able to forward it to our support team for further assistance.

All the best,
Kariza

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

According to my linked devices, it's YH00CS528192. I'll double check on the actual device in case there are extra characters. I don't use the Roku that often and leave it unplugged so it's cool when I do want to use it.

I've only had it barely a year now. It was mostly to turn a 4k monitor into a 'smart TV' occasionally. The reason I mention this is I got the same warning within the first week of use and didn't think much of it. The next time I used it the Roku was propped up a bit to allow air underneath yet it still gets too hot when viewing 4k content. So I'm asking for advice before I explore modding/ventilating it on my own.

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

Ok that's the full number. Thought I'd note that after checking the number I went to the secret temp screen. It was unplugged and started at 70c. Just from sitting on that screen - no streaming has taken place - it has risen to 81 over the course of a couple minutes. This isn't the danger zone of course, but it shows the unit pretty much starts warm.

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

Cool, thanks. Hopefully something can be tweaked so it doesn't fry on me one of these nights.

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

Oh well. Got my Email but it was the same tips I found online already. It's usually unplugged and not in a cabinet.

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

Been a few months... My last communication was that a replacement was going to be sent out but nothing ever came of it. I've only infrequently used the Roku during the summer. Now that it's cooler I was thinking maybe it would run longer while streaming some 4K content but it lasted maybe 10 minutes before I got the overheat warning again.

What can be done?

Re: Another Roku Premiere overheating.

I would but because my last contact was in Aug I don't think I have the old messages. I was waiting it out to see if anything arrived (I know there are a lot of delays and stock issues going around), but now it's been long enough that I figured I should follow up.
