I own a Roku Premiere+ (one of six different Roku boxes I own) and have
been using it with a television capable of both 720p and 1080p. I originally
set the Roku "Display Type" to "Auto Detect". Until recently, "Auto Detect"
correctly detected 1080p and set the display type accordingly. I was able to
watch the television as expected.
For a reason which I do not understand, my Premiere+ continues to detect
1080P but now stops communicating with the TV when it enters 1080p mode.
That is, upon start-up, I see the large ROKU symbol on the screen (when
initially in 720p mode) but the screen goes blank when it moves into 1080p
mode. With a blank screen, I am unable to turn off "Auto Detect" mode.
I finally resorted to performing a Roku "reset" and was able to determine
exactly what was happening but also lost all of my Roku's settings.
My question : should something like this happen in the future, is there any
way other than a "reset" to turn off "Auto Detect" in the "Display Type" when
the screen goes blank due to the "Display Type" which is "Auto Detect"ed?

See my new thread just moments ago - same dealio. Any time I switch to a 1080p device (in my case - my Epson 3020 Home Cinema) my Premiere + goes instantly dark. Nothing on screen and nothing detected (HDMI wise anyway).
Like you I had to do a hard reset and it finally came around but I am not doing that everytime I want to watch a movie.

Thanks. I am no longer using "Auto Detect" on that Roku box with that television. I will just adjust the "Display Type" manually and set it to 720p.
Unfortunately - my AVR feeds two devices so setting it to lowest common denominator is not really optimum. I could hard set it to 1080p for my projector but then I would need to reset when viewing on the 4K TV.
Most frustrating is that this WAS working as of last weekend - prior to the system update I got on Nov 12.
Not exactly why Roku would suddenly butcher Auto Detect but it's clear I am not the only one.
This is one of those times where I wish I could shut off Auto Updates and have a working box.
