Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

Thank you, @renojim This worked for me. I have Comcast. I went into my WiFi settings and sure enough, there was only g/n. I changed the channel to b/g/n. I did this through my phone, on my Xfi app. As far as my limited IT knowledge is, the g/n and b/g/n is about compatibility. The b representing older device compatibility) and the n is about speed. Again, my limited knowledge here. The entire process of changing this setting was straightforward and though I did fear I might mess something up, it worked out fine.

For the record, the dame issue happened to me that happened to you. First, I restarted my roku. Then, I checked my wifi password. Then, I restarted my roku again. Then, I unplugged my roku. Then, I unplugged my TV. None of that worked. At this point, I considered throwing my roku away. Instead, I decided to restart my router. Then, I tested my internet connection. Then, restarted my roku, unplugged, etc. Nothing was working. Finally, I decided to log into this community and at the end of a similar post, I saw the link for more posts about this. Here I am, satisfied enough to write all of this. Thanks again, @renojim

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

Use the Xfi app. It allows you to control all of your home network (wifi) settings. Go to 'Network Details' (at the top of screen)-->'Advanced Settings' (at the bottom of screen)-->'Manage WiFi Channel (at top of screen)--> Edit Channel (at the top - choose which wifi Channel you are using - most likely 2.4 GHz)--> Select drop down 'carrot' (down-pointing arrow looking thing). This is where you will see the b/g/n  g/n option.

Hope this helps!

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

I found the problem to be the Roku device. I eliminated the Xfinity as being any issue, as I swapped out the Express 4k unit from living room to problem area. It worked flawlessly. The problem unit a special model that only Walmart was selling. This unit wouldn't work in living room either even though it's next to Xfinity tower.

Seems strange that I saw no suggestions from anyone from Roku support.

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

  • This totally worked for me!  After hours of plugging and unplugging and even speaking to Xfinity (you can actually speak to a person!) I got enough courage to mess with router and presto!  Thanks jay28 for the detailed instructions!

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

@J_kipe, the Express 4k supports 5GHz Wi-Fi, so yours may be connecting to that band.  The b/g/n thing only applies to devices connecting to the 2.4GHz band.

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

@Ppelton, that's a different problem.  Does it show any networks?  What's the model number of your Roku device written on it somewhere?

Re: Suddenly unable to connect to wireless network

My internet provider finally called back about my router and like many others the 2.4 was turned off on my dual broadband router . The router specialist made some adjustments on my router and my ROKU is now working better than it ever has .  Honestly my entire household internet service is better . Problem solved thankfully …
