Roku ultra will not connect to wifi

I have a Roku ultra that is about 6 months old now and it will not connect to wireless internet at all it says that internet is available but it will not connect to internet.  I have gone through the troubleshooting list and found some that were very similar and have tried several things now. I have reset my internet I have reset my modem I have reset my Roku I have even factory reset my Roku now but nothing works.

Anybody have any suggestions or is anybody experiencing the same ..... This is so frustrating....

Chances are your router is using an incompatible wireless channel setting regarding the Roku.  Sometimes restarting the router multiple times may allow router to choose a compatible channel, but the best way to prevent future disruption is to manually assign a compatible channel.

You will need to login to your router admin settings and under wireless settings verify that under 2.4ghz band you are using a channel between 1 and 11. (If set to Auto, manually assign channel 1, 6, or 11.)  Under the 5ghz band, manually assign either 36-48, or 149-161.

Feel free to post back if you need more help or continue to experience issues after making these changes.  After making changes, make sure to Save settings at router, and then restart both router and Roku.

Re: Roku ultra will not connect to wifi

We are having the same issues.  At least once a day it bumps us off the internet all together..We are getting tired of resetting everything.

I'm ready to get rid of the

ROKU SOUNDBAR ALL TOGETHER!

Re: Roku ultra will not connect to wifi

I'm not sure whats going on..? Mine is a ruko ultra, and it was working fine, until about a week ago, and now it won't find the internet at all. It shows the WiFi is there, but no internet...and I'm about through with it too...throwing it through a window sounds pretty good right now ..😤

Re: Roku ultra will not connect to wifi

Thank you for the suggestion. Before I try this, I have another roku in the family room that is working just fine and dandy. The Roku in my bedroom is the one that will not accept any internet. If I mess with the admin settings for my internet will that not interfere with the Roku in my family room? I know how to log into the admin settings, but I have never messed with the settings for wifi before. I'll give it a look.

Re: Roku ultra will not connect to wifi

@Ajane1986

Changing the settings in the router mentioned in the above posting will not cause the family room Roku any problems.  Are both of these Roku devices Ultras or dual band devices (capable of using either 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz bands of your wifi).  What is the model of the Roku device that is working?

Your Ultra should be able to connect to the 2.4 ghz band of the network even if the 5ghz is misconfigured.  A couple different ways to troubleshoot your issue, (also theories as to your specific issue), so easiest is to verify that the wireless settings for both your 2.4ghz and 5ghz are set correctly before examining the other possibilities.  Need to eliminate network as issue before exploring device failure as issue.

Also, provide the following...

1. Roku model numbers (those that are working, and the Ultra not working [assuming 4800 since 6 mo old]

2. Router model number

3. Are you using a single/merged network SSID (network name), or dual/split network SSID (different name for 2.4 ghz band  and the 5ghz band)?

4. Can you move the Ultra to the family room to test if you can connect from that location?

@Pi21

You can try connecting to your 2.4 ghz band and see if your connection is more consistent.  The 5 ghz band may be faster but 5ghz by its very nature is not as strong in signal strength as the 2.4 ghz band.  You should also try lowering both your bandwidths/channel widths under your Wireless Settings at router to 20mhz which also helps to maintain wireless connections. (Some devices have problems at 40mhz which some routers use as its default.  A laptop and computer are much more advanced/better hardware than these little streaming boxes.  As with most wireless devices, sometimes you have to balance signal strength and speed.  Normally, you have to sacrifice speed for signal strength.  As a last resort for the Soundbar, you can eliminate the wi-fi problems simply by using an ethernet connection.
