Roku Express not recognizing displayed SSID - Roku 2 and Roku Ultra work fine!

Roku Express does not recognize displayed SSID on initial setup. Both a Roku 2 and Roku Ultra work on the same network. The password IS correct, though we get a 014.40 error code. The WiFi connection is constant at 5 bars. We have tried to log in to both the displayed SSID and our private network SSID with no success. We have booted and rebooted the router (Asus RT-AC56U) and the Roku Express numerous times. We have changed the wireless channel from midrange to high and low. We have added the Roku Express MAC address to the wireless MAC filter in the router, after assigning an IP address.

I am not a novice, as I am a beta tester for Apple. I am at my wits end!

If you are using roku2 model 2720, then appears that both your roku2 and Ultra are most likely connecting to the 5gzh band if your network.

You will need to verify that your 2.4gzh band is enabled and broadcasting, set to a channel between 1 and 11, and preferably set to 20mhz bandwidth for the Express to operate. Can also try toggling protocol or mode to g/n or n only if you do not have older laptops, etc.

Let me add to what @AvsGunnar said with the same applies to the model 4210 Roku 2 device.

The Roku 2 is using the 2.4GHz band. the Roku Ultra has been tested on BOTH the 2.4 and 5GHz bands. If you read the post, you will see that we have already experimented with changing channels on the WiFi

Should have also said, we are running two desktops and three laptops, three Android devices and two iPhones and one iPad. Currently, seven of those devices are using the 2.4GHz band. On the 20MHz frequency, our WiFi analyzer shows 117Mbps at -48dBm.

14.40 is generally a password error.  Have you tried disabling your password completely to see if Express can then connect?

There is a history in the forum regarding various asus routers and express and difficulty connecting.  Some are having special characters in password.

If you create open network (no password), then helps eliminate password as issue.

Standard firmware on the Asus?

Re: Roku Express not recognizing displayed SSID - Roku 2 and Roku Ultra work fine!

I know it is not a password issue, as the password which is displayed works on other devices; however I did find that if I create a modified guest network with the MAC address specified and authentication set as "open system" , it now finds the internet connection.

Now I have another issue.

While the Roku finds the internet, it keeps looping beginning with the opening screen to select language, then internet connection, and after that it says that the software is updating. This now has now happened 10 times!
