No connection to 5ghz

Jump to solution

So I just bought a Roku, model number 3930x Roku express. It only allows me to connect to my 2.4ghz wifi. It can’t find my 5ghz. All my devices can find both. Not sure what the issue is or if this model is capable of finding 5ghz? Thank you.

Express, Express+, and Premiere are budget models that only support the 2.4 GHz wifi bands.  All other current models have dual band wifi support and can connect to both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

You may be able to improve your 2.4 GHz performance if you hsve access to your wifi router settings.  Try changing the channel it is using to see if you can find one with less interference from neighbor's wifi, microwave oven interference, etc.

Why do you need 5G? do you know?

2.4ghz is perfectly fine. Use it.

my wifi isn’t great to begin with. The 2.4 is terrible, the 5 is decent. When watching movie it gets blurry and clear every few seconds. I have the same issue even with my phone when I use the 2.4. I have to use a wifi extender to reach my room so it’s not great connection to begin with. I had chromecast before and the 5 was better than the 2.4. So my question is, is this model capable of the 5 or not?

5Ghz wifi network wasn't created yesterday and Roku is providing a new device with a prior network conection which limitates whe bandwich you gonna usa. I'm very disappointed with Roku and I'm already looking for other device's from other companies. I think the best way to get what I need is to buy a micro pc or raspberry and set that up with linux/android media center os so I can get something that really works fine.

Have you tried a Firestick. Connects to 5G and there is no buffering.

5G won't matter. The cellular network really won't enter into it.

Unless you're talking about 5 GHz network, which is something different. All current Roku devices except the entry-level Express connect to 5GHz networks.

Yes...5GHz.

My Roku premier will not recognize the 5GHz wifi, but my Firestick does.

The Roku Premiere model 3920 was discontinued over a year ago and replaced in the lineup by the model 3940 Roku Express 4K, which is dual band.

One thing I really didn't like about all that was the earlier Premiere model 4620 was dual band. They downgraded that device and that never set well with me.

They have nearly weeded out all the 2.4 GHz only devices, with the Express as the last of that bunch. I'll be glad when it's gone.
