It works for a few weeks & then it stops & can not connect to my network

I have 2 units, one that's in my living for 2 years without a problem.  Upstairs over the last 6 months I had 2 units, they both worked for a while (a few weeks) & then they can not connect to my system? It shows the network with a good signal, but when it try to connect, no good.  HELP ! ! ! !   Has anyone had this type of problem & if so how did they fix it?  Thanks for any help/input/ideas.  I try praying to the holy signal god, but I can't connect with him either (yes, this is a joke, I need to laugh)

Hi @Steinlooker,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

It sounds like your Roku device may be having trouble connecting to your home network.

We recommend starting here to troubleshoot Network issues: What should I do if I cannot connect to my home network or ...
We recommend rebooting both your wireless router and your Roku device.
I'd also recommend trying to connect your device to an alternate network, such as a mobile hotspot just to isolate the issue.

Please try doing this and see if it helps with what you're experiencing.

Regards,

Mary

No, I'm not having a sound problem.  The problem is that the unit works for a few weeks & then it can't connect to my network, the device "sees" the network & has a good signal, but it will not connect to it.....

Re: It works for a few weeks & then it stops & can not connect to my network

I have a similar problem with the Roku Streaming Stick+ in my living room which is in nearly constant use during waking hours.  I lose my WiFi connection on this unit several times a month and have to re-establish the connection.  The seldom used Streaming Stick in our guest room has never lost connection that I can recall.  Our TCL Roku TV in the bedroom has lost connection perhaps twice in the last year or so.

I suspect this has something to do with some sort of instability in my old Western Digital router (WD got out of the router business several years ago).  I'm guessing an occasional glitch of some sort that the Roku can't recover from causes it to lose connection and then refuse to connect again.  I further suspect this also only happens when the Roku is actually streaming something as it is most prevalent on my most-used unit.

At any rate, I've gotten pretty proficient at getting the connection set back up, as follows:

  • Restart your router (even if other devices have no problem finding and connecting). Sometimes that's all it takes, if not keep going.
  • Restart the Roku to clear its memory via Settings > System > System restart (for a Roku TV it's Settings > System > Power > System restart). Again sometimes that's all it takes, if not keep going.
  • Find and connect to your network via Settings> Network > Set up connection

If that doesn't fix it, try disconnecting the power to your Roku for a few seconds.  When it comes back up, see if you then can set up the network connection.
