Help & troubleshooting for network issues, including connecting your device to your home Wi-Fi network, connecting to public networks, troubleshooting wireless issues & ethernet connections, and optimizing streaming performance.
My #Ultra (mdl 4670X) worked well in wireless mode earlier this yr but for some unknown reason the "refresh" (streaming update) activity drastically s-l-o-w-e-d down especially after 5 PM daily (when most folks watch the day's news). The router connection was then switched to wired and performance returned to normal. But recently the wireless mode was tested again on the weekend - initially good response but quickly degraded to s-l-o-w again during the work week. So (1) did Roku make a major change which caused initial slow down in wireless mode or (2) is the cause with ISP increased activity after 5 PM ? Thanx
My money's on your second conjecture -- increased network activity during busy hours, ESPECIALLY if you live close enough to neighbors such that their WiFi activity can interfere with yours.
If you have access to your router's setup, try configuring it to use a different WiFi channel to see if this helps the situation. In the 2.4 GHz band, channels 1, 6, and 11 do not overlap each other and thus give you the best chance at reducing congestion, so try each in succession, although depending on what channels your neighbors are using other channels may work best. Also, reducing router bandwidth from 40 to 20 kHz may also reduce interference.
