Help & troubleshooting for network issues, including connecting your device to your home Wi-Fi network, connecting to public networks, troubleshooting wireless issues & ethernet connections, and optimizing streaming performance.
Express models are typically 2.4GHz only. You typically need to upgrade to an Ultra for 5GHz support.
Not just the Ultra.
Roku models Express, Express+, Premiere, and Premiere+ are budget models that cannot connect to the 5 GHz wifi band, only to the 2.4 GHz band. All the rest of the current models have dual band wifi that sees and connects to both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
Before giving up on your Express, if you have access to your wifi router's settings, experiment with changing the 2.4 GHz channel your wifi is using. You may be able to find a channel with less congestion that allows greater throughput. You can also find apps for a mobile phone that will show you the various channels and their traffic to help you pick a less used one.
