Do I have to have a ROKU subscription if I buy a Roku smart tv and hook it up to the Internet?

Jump to solution

Do I have to have a Roku subscription or separate device if I buy a Roku smart tv?  I have Internet and want to hook it up to that. I just want to make sure if I buy this tv there is no additional cost for services.

@Minahoney11  Thanks for the note here. Roku does not charge for a Roku account or for using your Roku TV. Our platform offers a variety of both free and subscription based channels/services though, so you'll want to be aware of the channels or services you use. Any channel that requires a subscription will note this information when you are viewing the entry in the channel store on your device or online.

For instance, channels such as YouTube, The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Crackle are free, and do not require a subscription. Other channels, such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc. require a subscription in order to use. Some of these channels allow you to sign up directly using your Roku account, while others may require you to sign up with that channel/service provider separately, then simply log into the channel on your Roku device.

You can learn more about what's on Roku by browsing the channel store or checking out the Roku Blog. See more here: https://www.roku.com/whats-on or visit the Roku Blog here: https://blog.roku.com/

Thanks,

Tanner

There is no charge for roku account, and as far as I know the thing would be fairly useless without adding some channels. I have had three rokus over ten years and never spent a cent.
