Will cable connection substitute for internet connection?

Jump to solution

Will cable service (comcast) with modem/router temporarily provide "internet service"? Elderly neighbor has premium cable channels but no computer or smart phone. Wants Roku. Can I get her started with Roku basic and utilize internet through her cable connection to get her started?

It's certainly capable of providing Internet, but most likely since it's not currently connected the necessary hardware isn't there. So you'd have to go to the cable company, add an Internet subscription to their account, and get the hardware necessary for connection. You can either rent the cable modem or buy one. Also consider that most offer a lower price for Internet at first, but it's dependent on maintaining the subscription for a specified period of time.
