Ultra setup frozen at Set display type

Setting up new Ultra 2020.  Setup frozen at “Set display type”.  Repairing, unplug devices and start over, nor anything else works.  Cannot advance or go back.

Re: Ultra setup frozen at Set display type

@Mike42

Thanks for the post.

We would recommend trying to perform a factory reset on the device.

For more information about how to perform a factory reset, visit our Support page here: How do I factory reset my Roku® streaming device?

If you are still unable to resolve the issue, please send me a PM with your Roku account email address, and include the serial number on the Roku device along with a summary of the issue you are experiencing. I'll be able to assist you further from there.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Ultra setup frozen at Set display type

I have the same problem and doing a reset didn't work.

It's brand new out of the box.  And it froze at Set Display Type.  Mine is Roku Ultra LT

@kbrorson

Thanks for the post.

Are you able to use the remote when you first start setting up the Roku device? When you try to hard reset the device, are you making sure to press and hold down the reset button for at least 30 seconds regardless of what is happening on the screen?

With more information we will be able to assist you further.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Ultra setup frozen at Set display type

I fixed it. It was freezing at the display detection screen. The problem was the connection between the remote & the Roku device. When you get stuck at that screen, open the back of the remote, take the batteries out, wait 30 sec., reinsert the batteries, then click on the tiny button on the battery compartment below. This process will reconnect the device with the remote and you will go through the rest of the setup without any more problems. Hope this helps.

Re: Ultra setup frozen at Set display type

Hey @catd

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community!

Could you tell us specifically the issue you're running into and the troubleshooting steps you've completed? Some users reported that re-pairing your remote solves the issue. If you haven't tried that yet, we suggest giving it a shot.

To re-pair your remote:

  1. Remove the power cable from your Roku device, wait 5 seconds and then re-connect the power cable.
  2. Wait until your Roku device displays the home screen.
  3. Restart your remote. If your remote uses standard batteries, restart your remote by removing and reinserting the batteries.
  4. Press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds until you see the status light begin to flash. If the light does not flash, replace the batteries.
  5. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your Roku device.

Let us know how it goes.

All the best,
Kariza
