Sudden HDMI change

I was watching a movie with my brand new Roku+ (in use for just a couple weeks) when I tried to look for something else and the remote would not respond. I had to turn the Roku off and when I tried to turn it back on I just got the blue screen with a ‘channel not available’ message. I did the unplugging and resetting to no avail. Then, manually went through all the AV and HDMI channels on my Phillips tv set until it finally started working again on HDMI4. I’ve read that this change occurs when watching Netflix, only I wasn’t watching that channel.

Why does the Roku suddenly stop working on HDMI1 but works on HDMI4? Is this common? This is my first stick, so I’m not used to the issues that may arise with these appliances.
